Neophyllomyza, consisting of 8 species, belongs into the subfamily Phyllomyzinae and can be found in the Palaearctic, Nearctic, Neotropical, Afrotropical, and Australasian Region.
Neophyllomyza acyglossa has been reared from dead wood and several species have been observed to be kleptoparasitic on Asilidae and on spiders.
The genus can be recognized by an elongate proboscis, two orbital setae, and a posteroventral comb of setae on the first tarsomere of the hind leg.
