Habits: Four of the 7 known specimens of Ornidia whiteheadi were collected in association with the wastes of army ants (Atta).
Taxonomy: Ornidia whiteheadi is similar in size and appearance to major Curran, but is readily distinguished from all other Ornidia species by the extensive tawny pile on the mesonotum, pleuron and 3rd tergum. The structure of male terminalia is also unique among volucellines. The abdomen of whiteheadi has a distinctive coppery irridescence that differs from the metallic green, blue or purple found in the other species. Ornidia whiteheadi is known only from 7 specimens .
