Euaresta sp., possibly bella (Loew)
Comments
A few specimens from Cuba and the Dominican Republic discussed by Norrbom (1993) are very
similar to specimens of E. bella (Loew) from the United States, but the males
usually have most of tergite 5 nonmicrotrichose. Whether they are conspecific with North
American populations requires further investigation. None of the Antillean specimens have
a second hyaline spot or an isolated medial brown spot in the pterostigma as usually
occurs in E. stigmatica (Coquillett). No host data are known for them. Previous
records of E. bella from the Antilles (Barbados - Foote 1967; Cuba - Dirlbek
& Dirlbekova 1973), except perhaps those from the Bahamas, are presumably based on the
same populations.
