May 8-13, 2006- Ethan Kane and Ronald Ochoa traveled to Trinidad to participate in a workshop and assist with a survey for the Red Palm Mite, Raoiella indica Hirst (Acari: Tenuipalpidae).

May -5, 2006- Detection and inspection guidelines for the Red Palm Mite, Raoiella indica Hirst (Acari: Tenuipalpidae).

Dec 17, 2005- Ethan Kane and Ronald Ochoa presented a poster at the 2005 Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of America in Fort Lauderdale on the discovery of the false spider mite Raoiella indica Hirst (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) in the Caribbean.

Aug 11, 2005- New video available: Defensive Behavior of the Peacock Mite, Tuckerella revelata.* This video captures peacock mites in action, including the use of their caudal setae in a whip-like defense. This behavior, along with their elaborate ornamentation, has earned them the title of "Stegosaurus of the Mite-World"! *Requires Windows Media Player

Aug 10, 2005- View a short video* of the rust mite, Aceria anthocoptes (Nalepa). This mite is being looked at as a potential biological control agent for use against Canada Thistle, a noxious weed that grows in many areas of the United Sates. *Requires Windows Media Player

Jun 28, 2004- An overview of Bee Mites is now available.

Feb 26, 2004- SEL research involving flat mites associated with citrus leprosis virus is featured in the March 2004 issue of Agricultural Research.

Feb 25, 2004- The Tenuipalpidae section of the site has been revised, now offering additional flat mite images and reference citations.

Feb 9, 2004- An overview of the Fern Mite, Hemitarsonemus tepidariorum (Warburton) is now available.

Feb 2004- Content additions are being prepared and will be released as they become available. Specific emphasis will be placed on enhancing the the Bee Mites section of the site.

Jan 22, 2004- The Electron Microscopy Technology Group was awarded the 2003 ARS Excellence in Information Award at the ARS Annual Recognition Program in New Orleans, LA.
