How to Cite the
BDWD
The online version of the BioSystematic Database of World Diptera may
be cited as the whole or parts or even individual records of it may be
cited. When parts or individual records are cited, the BioSystematic
Database of World Diptera should be treated as a journal and the parts
cited as if they were articles within that journal. One may cite any
group of records from an individual name record to a group of them
(usually a taxon) so long as they have the same authority (that is, the
same value within the authority field). Below are some examples of
appropriate citations.
NB: As noted under Quality Assurance, the
BDWD contains both working and published records. Only those records that
have been peer-reviewed (level 4) are considered to be published and
available for use. All work records represent on-going research and are
only available to those directly involved in building the BDWD.
For the whole BDWD use:

Copyrights
The BDWD operates under US Law, especially the fair-use provisions of
the Copyright Law. As the major supporter of the project is an US
Government agency, the BDWD is without copyright. The published
information remains freely available as noted above. Collaborators have
been asked to transfer limited rights to the BDWD for the free scientific
and non-commercial use of their contributions. Work records, however, are
NOT available as they represent on-going research.
