Flower Flies are conspicuous and critical part of the Costa Rican fauna.
Currently, 379 species of Flower Flies have recorded from Costa Rica and are
distributed among 45 genera.
The Flower Flies of Costa Rica have never been revised. The last
treatment was by Williston (1891-1903) in the Biologia
Centrali-Americana series. A catalog of Neotropical Flower Flies was
done by Thompson, Vockeroth & Sedman (1979). A basic review and key to
genera and the literature is provided by Thompson (1997).
This project will provide HTML keys to the genera and species; a faunistic
analysis, links to the appropriate genus and species pages, as well as an
index to the literature.
