Genera of Flower Flies

Flower Flies are clustered into some 285 different group of closely related species. Our knowledge of these groups, called genera (genus, singular) is being summarized here. For each genus, there will be a separate page, which will provide the basic scientific and nomenclature data for the group, such as what does a typical species look like (image & description), how to separate the group from all other groups (diagnosis), where do the group occur (map), what are the names that have been used for the group (nomenclature) and what has been written about the group (references). An index will be provided to all the species pages. And, usually, an aid to identify the species (a key, series of images, etc.).
