To take advantage of all the information in Scale Insects, please read this information and access the links below.
There are four separate tools: Scale Families, Mealybugs, Soft Scales and Other Scales. Clicking on a menu item to the left under Scale Tools will give you access to that tool.
Each tool contains many informational (html) pages and images, and a Lucid interactive matrix-based identification key (a Java applet). The information and images can be accessed from the Lucid key or independently from it. Click on the Introduction link below for more detailed information.
The Lucid keys require that you have Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed on your computer. Clicking on the Check for Java from the menu to the left will take you to a page that describes how to check for Java, and how to acquire and install it. Clicking on the About The Keys link below will give you more information about the keys. You may access and use the Web part of the tool without having Java installed, but clicking on a "Run Key" menu button on any page will result in an error message or "page not found" if Java is not installed.
