Getting Started - Introduction

As you roll your cursor over the Menu items under Scale Tools, some information about each tool will appear over the image on the right. Click the tool you wish to view, and then on "Enter" at the bottom of the title screen for that tool. This will put you on the tool's "Find Image" page. In each tool you have access to General Information, a Glossary, Familiy or Species Lists, information About the Key, a User Guide that will help you use the Lucid Key, and a Run Key link to start the key.
There are two ways to locate a family or species. On the Find Image page, roll your cursor over a thumbnail image, and a larger version will appear in the center window. To view information, click on a thumbail image and you will be taken to the Description Page for that family or species. Another method is the alphabetically arranged Family or Species Lists; here, the Description Pages are accessed by clicking on images at each family or species entry.
The Description Pages cover, Genus, Species and Authors Name with a link to the catalog in ScaleNet if available. Common names, if any, images that are linked to enlarged views of Habitus photos when available, photomicrographs of the specimens, drawings of the specimens with links to glossary definitions of terminology in the callouts, Field Characters, Validation characters, Comparisons, U.S. Quarantine Notes, References, (which will take you to the citations in ScaleNet), and a link to All References mentioning this particular species or family.
