How to check if you have Java installed

Lucid3 system requirements

Operating System: Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003, Mac OSX, Linux, Solaris.

System Memory: 64MB RAM (128MB or greater recommended).

Web browser: A Java enabled web browser such as Internet Explorer (Win only), Netscape, or Safari. The most recent versions of the browsers shown below are also Java enabled and will open the keys. Clicking on any of these links will open a new page which you will need to close to return to Scale Insects. The icons indicate which operating systems they are compatible with.

Additionally, Internet Explorer may block "active content" on web pages or interactive keys. To allow active content, in Internet Explorer, under Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab, Security category, the boxes next to the first two settings: "Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer" and "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" should be checked.

Software: The Lucid3 interactive key will run embedded within a web browser as a Java applet Player. Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4.2 or greater must be installed on your computer for the Lucid3 Applet Player to run successfully.

If you see a pink box above this line and text that says your Java version is 1.4.2 (or greater) from Sun Microsystems Inc., or Apple Computer, Inc. and your computer meets the Lucid3 system requirements, you will be able to open the keys which are accessible from Scale Tools listed on the Home page. If you do not see the pink box, or a box with an X in it, check your browser preferences to make sure Java is enabled. If you see the pink box, and there is no text, then you will need to install JRE.
To manually check if you have Java installed on your system, type:

java -version     in a Command prompt (Windows) or Terminal console (Mac, Unix).

For example:

If you receive an "Unknown Command" error message or your Java build number is less than 1.4.2 then you need to install the latest (free) edition of JRE, which can be found under "For Windows Users:" listed below. Macintosh users please read "For Macintosh Users:" below.

Be advised that the "Java Runtime Environment" is continually being updated for compatibility with operating system updates. Check the links below to see if there is a newer version for your operating system if you are in doubt.

For FAQ on the JRE please see: www.java.com/en/download/faq/index.xml

For Macintosh users:
If you are using OSX 10.3.x or newer, Java Runtime Environment is already installed on your computer. We recommended that you use Safari, although any of the recent versions of the browsers listed at the top of the page that have a OSX icon beside them will work
